Epiphany Cafe, Summer II

We went back to Epiphany Cafe here in Tuscaloosa to celebrate our third wedding anniversary last month. (Sometimes instead of giving each other gifts, we’ll share a special dinner out or another experience, like a ball game, concert, or weekend trip.)

Are you wondering what our favorite chef’s latest summer inspirations were? Well, wonder no longer.

We had a delicious heirloom tomato salad that was like summer itself crafted on a plate.

One of the daily specials, oyster mushroom falafels topped with avocado, was an exciting twist on a favorite Middle Eastern dish.

I loved the gazpacho featuring watermelon, basil, heirloom tomatoes, and cucumbers.

For dessert, Chilton County peach shortcake with olive oil cakes and the delicious addition of local basil.

I hope we make it back one more time while the summer menu showcasing so much local produce is still in effect!

I’ll definitely have to visit this place when I’m in Tuscaloosa! I’m not a big falafel fan, but the pork cooked in a root beer reduction and the lavender creme brulee sound like winners to me.
