So, I joined the 21st century and got a smartphone last weekend. I had held off a long time in the name of saving money and avoiding yet another source of “screen-time” in my life, but eventually my loves of productivity and using time efficiently won out.
Then came the next big battle: scouring the internet in search of a case to protect my iPhone 3GS. I would not settle for anything ugly, but wanted something functional and safe too. In other words, I did not want anyone to laugh at me when my stylish iPhone got completely ruined by some freak accident that a tougher case would have defended it against.
Here is what I ended up with to toggle the line between style and function: a Case-Mate “Tough Case.” Now, please know that I am not a technology expert and am in any way no way qualified to tell you what will keep your smartphone safe! I merely googled around and found a few good reviews. I figure that I am usually pretty careful with my gadgets, so hopefully this will serve me well without too much extra bulk. My husband, on the other hand, went for the Otterbox, which means his iPhone will probably outlast mine in a nuclear war.
You can buy these cases for around $35 without any shipping charges from the Case-Mate website. I wasn’t sure what screen shields to get, but I found some PhoneDevil anti-glare ones that got good reviews on Amazon and had free shipping, so I am giving those a try. Here’s hoping this big technological adventure turns out well!
Update October 9, 2011: Two days ago I dropped my phone while I was on the treadmill at the gym. It hit the moving belt, flew off the back, and probably hit the wall about 1 foot behind the treadmill. But, it still works! I have noticed no negative effects whatsoever. Thanks, Tough Case! I also LOVE the Phone Devil shield. I am not going to say it was easy to apply because it was a little tricky and brought out my perfectionist Type A tendencies, but I did get it to go on without any bubbles and I have been perfectly satisfied with it for the the last month. I’m glad I spent a little more on it.
