Gift Idea: Best Beauty Product

December 13, 2011

You know how you are always hoping to find that game-changing beauty product? The new favorite that might truly make your life better? The one you’d consider taking to a deserted island? For me, this is it: Cake Satin Sugar. (It also comes in a lighter shade.) Perfect for stockings, or for any woman on your gift list who has, you know, hair.

My sister got me the “darker hues” bottle as a gift a few years ago. I’ve tried a few other “dry shampoo” or “hair refresher” products since then, and have been completely disappointed by all of them. The Satin Sugar has spoiled me. You sprinkle it near your roots and spread it throughout your strands with your fingers. Like magic, your hair is less oily and looks fresher and even a little highlighted. Now, of course it is not perfect: my hair doesn’t look like I just washed it, and I wouldn’t wear it this way to a big, important event. (Then again though, I do not have naturally fantastic hair.) Also, if you’re not careful to rub it in fully, the powder can collect visibly in your part or at your hairline. But, it makes a world of difference on the areas that tend to get noticeably oily, like my bangs and roots. And with a little touch-up from the blow-dryer, my ‘do is passable for work or casual weekend wear.

My only complaint is that it doesn’t travel well. Usually I put a piece of clear packing tape over the top, and then seal it in the ziploc baggie. The stuff lasts forever though. I am still on my first bottle, and I cannot even remember how long ago it was that my sister gave it to me. Possibly 3 or 4 years. I haven’t used it incredibly regularly that entire time, but still, this little bottle lasting that long is impressive, right?

I hope you like it if you try it! I personally would probably walk over hot coals to get to it… don’t tell my hairstylist, but sometimes I get THAT tired of blow-drying every single day. :)
