One of my favorite things to do in the Bay Area with my family, especially my mom, is hike in the hills. You can walk or run for miles on trails in parks or paths along calm residential streets. We usually like to go out every morning after a leisurely breakfast with the newspaper, unless shopping, errands, or taking someone to the airport interferes.
While I was home for Christmas this year, my brother and I took a hike through Rancho San Antonio, an open space preserve comprised of thousands of acres of land near Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Cupertino. It was quiet, peaceful, scenic, and very Northern Californian. We saw a deer calmly eating plants right next to the cars in the parking lot, and three rabbits alongside a stretch of trail my brother calls “Bunny Alley.”The photos are not great quality because I took them with my phone, but I hope they’ll give you a taste of the Bay Area in December just the same.
